In her solo presentation, Susanne Kühn explores the potential of virtual reality for new forms of pictorial thinking. In doing so, she subjects representations of humans and plants and their biological structures to reinvention. Organic forms can take on technoid appearance or grow into human-like beings.
At its core, Kühn’s work is committed to precise craftsmanship, which enables her to interlink a wide variety of artistic languages. For the first time, Kühn’s ceramics are shown in this exhibition. As sculptural sprouts they extend the pictorial space of her most recent paintings into the exhibition space. In a new series of works on paper, she sketches floral inventions. Furthermore, a slide projection with photographs from Kühn’s image archive shows the individuals who populate her paintings of the last 10 years.
Susanne Kühn is a painter of the present and works with an expanded concept of painting. In 2015, she was appointed professor of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg. After years in New York and Boston, Susanne Kühn now lives and works in Freiburg and Nuremberg.
Kühn has shown solo exhibitions at the Gemäldegalerie der Akademie der Bildenden Künste Vienna; the Kunstmuseum Celle; the Museum für Neue Kunst Freiburg; at the OMI International Arts Center, Ghent, USA; at Sala Uno, Contemporary Arts Center Rome; at Haunch of Venison London and at Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, USA.
